2thinknow: Innovation Teams
Innovation requires new thinkers, outside of
the box people, digerati, ideas people and general creative
minds.
How do Innovation Teams work?
By bringing together creative teams for projects, workshops
or consulting, fresh ideas outside the paradigm are generated.
Think about it, those inside your organisation or city have a
fixed view on what approaches will work. Inevitably, these are
based around the current paradigm. But if your business or
industry is undergoing change, will solutions inside the
paradigm build competitive advantage?
The Paradigm Trap
No, because your competitor organizations will be creating
the same solutions. Think about it again, all the disruptions in
your industry have come from an outsider. A fresh 'why don't we
do' this perspective?
And once people are in your organization long enough, or even
consult to an industry long enough, they get inside the
paradigm. They sympathise with industry problems, and find
industry solutions, which are fine 90% of the time, but do not
deliver competitive advantage in disruptive times.
Outside the Paradigm, 2thinknow
2thinknow Innovation Agents, are a team of innovators outside
the paradigm, who can use silo-busting, cross-industry,
cross-functional, groundbreaking idea techniques to help you see
outside your paradigm.
2thinknow Innovation Agents doing the workshops, consulting,
speeches and close client work, are creative, arts-based people,
innovators with voices outside your industry.
They are the disruptors, the change agents, the innovators
you can call to see the problems of your industry from
outside-in.
Why Outside-In, enables innovation
Think about it, you have enough people making projections
inside, you have enough reasons why the future is more of the
same, or reasons why the current projects will or won't work.
Nassim Taleb wrote a book about the basis of this... a well
known philosophical problem of induction, called Black Swans,
assuming day 1000 is the same as day 999. But in a state of
industry disruption and change, this is not the case.
Employed Innovators join your Paradigm
Even if you recruit industry disruptors, most of the time,
these people will become acclimatised to your paradigm, and
produce the same solutions the as others inside your
organization, inside 3 months employment.
Quicker, if these disruptors are from within the industry
itself, for disruption at one enterprise does not translate to
disruption at another.
Good example of this can be found in Steve Jobs / Sculley
episode at Apple, and there are very few Steve Jobs available as
full-time employees, generally they are out there disrupting
industries as proprietors.
Innovation Agents, On-call
What 2thinknow Innovation Agents are full time innovators.
People outside the paradigm with a 2thinknow world-class
Innovation Toolkit.
Innovation tools from a MBA program are likely to be
out-of-date, which is why 2thinknow build innovation toolkits
based on local &
global trends.
Yet we will be using 2thinknow innovation case studies of
organizations that have created lasting innovation, at P&G,
McDonalds, Google or up-and-coming less publicised innovation
stories.
This can be done through workshops, 1-on-1 strategy,
consulting, speeches, round-tables, management retreats,
customised research and other formats with a high degree of
consultation, and high-energy involvement.
The need for Outside-the-Paradigm in Cities, too.
Like organizations, cities also tend to think inside existing
paradigms.
Cities disrupt their innate conservatism, typically only in 2
situations:
a) When unified around major projects such as sporting events
b) Or new leadership, such as well known example, Rudy
Giuliani and team in New York or Jeff Kennett in Melbourne.
2thinknow
Innovation Cities models and Innovation Agents, are your
outside, on-call team of outside-the-paradigm thinkers for
generating ideas, workshops and creative planning.
Using Innovation City models, and benchmarked case studies,
developed by 2thinknow we can enable your city to drive
innovation.
Who do we look for on our Innovation Teams?
Smart, creative people. Arts background, paradigm shifters.
Artists & Creatives. Business people with non-traditional
backgrounds. Architects, designers, fine artists, studio
creatives, consultants with diverse experience, creative
business minds.
In short, people outside the paradigm of the General Motors
1950s corporation or conglomerate.
Often the so-called Generation X & Y, or creative people of
any generation. We call this the
Creative Generation. Creative minds with the skills needed
for the
Collaboration Organization, or as other calls some aspects
of this,
Enterprise 2.0.
Innovation agents will come from diverse backgrounds, and are
normally selected from outside the industry. All are
contractually committed to strict confidentiality over any
business matters discussed, and because they are outside the
industry, are not part of industry news.
What are 2thinknow's employment policies?
2thinknow engage most team-members on a contract or by-use
basis, or else as co-operative partnerships, sharing staff
between partner firms.
Most Innovation Agents are on some form of contract including
non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality
non-disclosure agreements.
Should a client wish to employ an Innovation Agent directly,
although this reduces their externality and thus
paradigm-breaking potential, a standard nominal fee of 7% of
annual packaged salary is charged.
Those seeking to be considered as innovation Agents should
see the notes on auditioning for being an Innovation Agent.
