Inspiration
Can you get ideas?

Implementation
Once you have them can you implement them in your city?

Market Access
And is there enough of a market accessible from you city to make it worthwhile to innovative? ie. is there an incentive for innovation?

Potential Implementation and Market Access should be assessed before resources are invested in innovation.

This is what we used to rank the global cities here. A city that was inspiring, such as Vienna and Paris or Rome can sometimes score less well on implementation, as the ideas are attracted to neighbouring markets. Also barriers to getting an idea 'off-the-ground' or access to small or under-resourced markets, can mean global creatives go to cities where ideas can be better implemented.

Applying to cities:
Sometimes cities such as New York and Boston can have boosting effects, as the ability to implement innovation, or inspirational nature seesaws between them.

There is little doubt that the Giuliani-led rejuvenation of new York was instrumental in the city scoring so well, as was the Kennett-led Melbourne responsible for Melbourne growing to be globally innovative. Cities on the cusp of rejuvenation like Berlin and San Francisco, can
